A stalwart of the automotive and motorsport media industries, Melbourne-based content creation specialist Joel Strickland continues to be well-regarded in the field after two decades.

The founder of his self-named business, Strickland has provided a freelance photography, videography and writing service for clients Australia-wide.

His career in the media industry commenced with covering local motorsport events in Tasmania.

“My background predominantly has been in the automotive sector and motorsport space,” Strickland said.

“I started with motorsport from when I grew up in Hobart many years ago and basically it’s been a big part of my career,” Strickland said.

“I registered the business my first year out of school and grew up shooting Targa Tasmania, Supercar rounds at Symmons Plains back in the day and the Australian Rally Championship.

“I have worked for various teams shooting launches, livery reveals, promotional images and for various media outlets covering motorsport events such as Supercars rounds and tests.”

A move from Tasmania to Melbourne saw continued growth for his business.

“The business continued to develop from there. I covered local events, worked with sponsors and I started picking up work outside of my motorsport clients. I worked with corporates and other businesses that needed my services,” Strickland added.

The advancements made in technology saw Strickland adapt his service offering to include videography, live streaming and social media management, while he also gained his CASA-certified drone pilot licence.

As his business flourished, his reputation attracted the interest of clients such as McLaren, Renault, Maserati, Shannons, CarsGuide and Speedcafe.com.

It was his association with Speedcafe.com that led him to list his business on Networkcafe.

“With the reach of Speedcafe, including with new areas such as Networkcafe and JobStop, I thought it was a great opportunity to get my name in front of people that may not already know me,” Strickland said.

“I’ve been around for quite a few years in the industry, but it’s always good to meet new clients and new people.

“There’s always new sponsors coming into motorsport, so it’s always handy to make those connections.”

While Strickland has a loyal client base, he is eager to take on new clients.

“I’m available to discuss projects, whether it be photography, videography or content production for businesses,” he added.

“If you are looking for someone that can deliver you a product that is turnkey ready for a project, certainly get in touch and we would be happy to have a chat with you to see how we can help.”
